Introducing FastSSR PC

FastSSR PC is a Windows application for the user who wishes to take full advantage of the enhanced file transfer options offered by the FastSSR and, optionally, Applied Software Inc.'s SSR Server products. FastSSR PC is not an emulation program, nor is it a replacement for the SEND or RECEIVE code embedded within most emulation software. Instead, FastSSR PC is client software that can transfer host data in one of two ways. First, it can run without an emulator session and make high-speed, SSL/TLS-enabled TCP/IP calls to the FastSSR z/OS job running on the host. Second, it can make enhanced EHLLAPI and/or WinHLLAPI calls to ASI SSR Server and pass file transfer requests to the emulation software in use.

Most communications software, including Windows emulators, provide their own proprietary version of SEND and RECEIVE commands. The common thread through all of them, however, is that they interface with the same IND$FILE program on the host that has been around for decades. While each PC based program allows certain features and syntactical extensions for the control of the PC, they all support essentially the same syntax to drive the IND$FILE program on the host.

The Applied Software SSR Server programs were developed to offer additional functionality. The SSR Server programs not only accept the same syntax supported by the original IBM IND$FILE program, but also accepts additional operands which are used to provide the extended features. While SSR Server adds a great deal of new features, it still transfers data using the same terminal-based PUTS and GETS as the host IND$FILE program.

Why FastSSR?

FastSSR takes ASI's solution many steps forward by retaining SSR Server's enhanced file transfer operands but transferring the data over the internet using SSL/TLS-enabled TCPIP calls without the need for an emulator session. We have found the same file transfers to be up to 95 times faster with FastSSR over emulator-based file transfers! With FastSSR PC you can transfer files, SYSOUT data, CICS data, submit JCL, and execute CLISTs and EXECs. A new interface allows you to save multiple transfer requests as a batch file and execute the batch.
